Astrophotography Performance

Our brand new cooled version of ASI178MM Monochrome Camera  allows the sensor to be cooled to 35C to 40C degrees below ambient!

Here is a 60s long exposure dark file of this Camera. Back-illuminated  CMOS Image Sensor with 14bit ADC.

ASI178MM has a 1/1.8″ and 6.4M pixels sensor IMX178 with SONY STARVIS and Exmor R Technology.

Extremely low read noise(2.2 e) , high sensitivity and 14bit ADC make it very suitable for astronomy and microscopy high resolution photograph.

Reliable Mechanical Structure

There are four screws that seal the sensor chamber. Our camera design has been extensively tested and is very stable.

Even when used in higher humidity environments, ASI178-Cool will still works fine without dew problems.

USB 3.0 Port & USB2.0 HUB

USB 3.0 Port: Provides 5Gb bandwidth to make it possible for ASI178-Cool to run at 30 fps (14bit, normal mode) or 60 fps (10bit, high speed mode) at full resolution (6.4Mega).
USB 2.0 HUB: Can connect with various accessories,  including a filter wheel, guide camera or electronic focuser, allowing you to manage your cables better. There are two short 0.5m USB2.0 cables included with the ASI178-Cool. The hub is powered by the external power supply if you connect one.

Cooling System

ASI178MM-Cool has 2 stage TEC cooling system to enable very deep cooling (35°C-40°C below ambient). The cooler requires an external power supply, which is not included with the camera. You may order a suitable power supply from here.

We recommend using a 12V/3-5A or more DC adapter for cooler power supply (2.1×5.5, center positive).

Using a battery with 9-15V is also suitable for the cooler power supply.

    Hello,
Which Kamra is better suited for a SCT f / 10 for DSO and planets the ASI 178-cool or asi174-cool? What is your opinion? Where are the differences noise, amp glow, etc.?
    Thank you for your response.

      :

Kamra, what is it? ASI178 is better, amp-glow of 174 is still to much even have anti-amp-glow control, it is not suitable for DSO imaging.

Hi what would be better with a 80ED scope, a 200PDS and a 150 MAK, this 183 mono or the 290 or 385 for DSOs? And a bit of planets?

    • Sean Wang

      :

183 will be the best option, 1″ sensor, 20mega pixels.

It says that the exposure ranges from 32µs to 1s, but how can you get a picture with 60seconds exposure

Both supported. Yes, it is 14bit camera.

hello Sam, the pixel’s size is a little too small but if i use bin2x2 the results will are goods ?

    • Sam Wen

      :

of course, binning help increase SNR
      this is a big advantage

Will the TEC work with a 12V 2A power supply or should I use something with a higher amp rating?

    0

    0
    • Sam Wen

      :

yes, it works, just don’t cool too deep to reach it’s max power consumption

    Hello,

Do you have measurements of Dark Signal Noise of this camera?

    Thanks

    0

    0
    • Sam Wen

      :

it’s a little hard to measure as there is some auto clamp inside 178

  12. (verified owner):

Technically yes, you did include a dark – only 60-sec. if like you said – there’s no way to control the amp glow at least I thought you should have mentioned that also in the description, yes? No?

    • Sam Wen

      :

I am sorry to say all our cameras have amp-glow, that’s why we provide dark frames for users to check

      0
  13. (verified owner):

This camera has the worst amp glow I have ever seen and to reduce it I can only do 5-minute sub with no more than 38% gain.
    Thanks for the tip!

    • Sam Wen

      :

you should try our ASI224 or ASI174, then you will know what is worst amp glow 😉

      0

      0
  14. (verified owner):

Wondering what you’ll suggest to control the amp glow – it is very bad with a 10-minute sub at -10C. I’m very disappointed and not sure if I can even resale this thing!
P.S. if your answer is to take much shorter exposure (less than 5 minutes) then I think you SHOULD have listed that so I could simply pass this camera and safe me some $$$.

    0

    0
    • Sam Wen

      :

yes, but the pixel size is a little small
so maybe better work with short focal length refractor or lens

ASI wanted to ask if the MM 178 refrigerated planetary photography no improvement in further reducing noise compared to that is not refrigerated.

Does it have autoguider port like the uncooled ones. Looking for an autoguider cam but don’t want to spend money on a “one purpose only” camera, this could do some neat DSO imaging when I get a nice big telescope to replace mt DSLR setup.
