Product Description
ASI071MC Pro
Camera Sensor
▶IMX071
The ASI071MC Pro is a popular OSC camera based on the highly appreciated sensor from Sony – the IMX071 – in APS-C format. A good set of specifications combined with a good price makes it a great choice for those who want to take the step from DSLR to a dedicated astronomy camera. Some of the highlights include:
- APS-C format (28.4 mm diagonal) with 4.78 um pixel size – ideal for many types of telescopes
- 14-bit ADC– giving high dynamic range of 14 stops
- A high 46ke- full well capacity – helping to reduce the issue of for example saturated stars
- 16-megapixel sensor with 4944*3284pixels – plenty of detail can be captured in high resolution
- Electronic shutter– no vibration problems compared to a mechanical shutter
- Very low read noise of 2.3 e-at 24 dB gain – bringing out more details in your images with improved dynamic range
If you are looking for an APS-C type OSC camera for astrophotography, you can’t go wrong with the ASI071MC Pro. It will provide low read noise and a high dynamic range.
DDR Memory Buffer
ASI071MC Pro camera includes a 256MB DDR3 memory buffer to help improve data transfer reliability. Additionally, the use of a memory buffer minimizes amp-glow, which is caused by the slow transfer speeds when the camera is used with a USB 2.0 port.
DDR memory buffer is the main difference between ASI “Cool” and “Pro” cameras.
Astrophotography Performance
ASI071MC Pro offers very good performance for astrophotography. Low read noise, high dynamic range.
Dark Current
The Dark Current of ASI071MC Pro is better controlled than before with the help of a DDR buffer and new improved hardware design.
Please check this 300s dark frame free of amp-glow: Here
QE Curve
We suppose the QE peak value is more than 50%.
Relative QE curve
Unique Tilt Adapter
ASI071 Pro includes unique tilt adapter. Say goodbye to tilt problems forever !
USB 3.0 Port & USB2.0 HUB
USB 3.0 Port: Provide 5Gb bandwidth to make it possible for ASI071MC Pro to run at 10 fps (14bit, normal mode) at full resolution(16Mega).
New mechnical design and Anti-Dew Heater
The ASI071MC-PRO camera comes with a completely upgraded anti-dew and mechanical body.
The diameter of the camera body is increased to 86mm compared to the ASI071MC Cool (78mm).
▶6 screws seal the chamber
This new structure seal the CMOS chamber better.
▶Anti-dew and cooling system
Thanks to the two-stage TEC cooling, ASI071MC Pro can lower the CMOS sensor temperature to more than 35-40 degrees Celsius below ambient temperature, which can greatly reduce dark current generation and sensor noise even during extended exposure times.
Please notice that the camera needs to be connected to an external 11-15v power supply to implement the cooling function. We recommend you use 12V@3A DC adapter (5.5*2.1mm, center pole positive) or lithium battery with 11-15V to power the camera. If you don’t have one, please click here to buy a 12V power adapter. There are 4 different standards for different countries, please make sure you selected the correct adapter when placing the order.
The anti-dew heater will heat the AR protect window to avoid any dew problems. The heat anti-dew heater power is around 3.6W and can be turn off in software to save power.

Lamar McLouth – :
What are the threads for the M42-M48 adapter that is included with this camera?
Is the M42 side male and the M48 side female threads?
And the T2-M48 16.5mm extender, I assume the T2 means M42x0.75. Is this correct?
Finally please tell me the threads on the T2-M48 16.5mm extender. Is the T2 side male and the M48 side female threads?
Thanks!

sara.liu – :
Yes, it is M42M-M48F.
And the T2-M48 16.5mm extender is M48M-M42F-4mm (M48-M42 adapter).

Hello.
Is there any plans about cooled mono camera wit APS-C sensor like IMX071 or IMX571?
Thanks

Luis Martínez – :
Hello,
my setup is as follows:
– Long perng 80mm / 550 + WO flattener 0.8x + Idas LPS filter (f6.8 / f5.5)
– Vixen Visac 200mm / 1800 + vixen flattener 0.71 + Idas LPS filter. (f9 / f6.4)
My Exposures are 5-10-15 minutes.
Which camera would be better for DSO, 294 or 071 or another?
Would you have backfocus problems?
Regards,
Luis

Moson – :
If you want to exposure such a long time, you could choose the camera which has a higher full well and lower read noise. It could be ASI294. The backfocus is depend on your telescope which has flattener or reducer.

Luis Martínez – :
Could I focus with a William Optics 80/550 mm + 0.8x Flattener and with a Vixen Visac VC200L + 0.71x Flattener?
What extra accessories would I need?

Moson – :
If your flattener requires 55mm backfocus, you need some adapters. These accessories will come with the camera. And if the thread of your flattener is M42 or M48, this camera can attach to your flattener.

Patrick Arden – :
Every time I use this camera my downloaded files are always FITS files. My latest version of Mac does not take FitsLiberator and I can’t get the latest version of photoshop to accept FITS files. Is there a way to download images from camera that are not FITS files? Thanks

Katherine Tsai – :
Sorry, ASIIMG only supports 16bit fit file output since it is for DSO imaging, RAW files leave us with more space during post-processing.
You can try other capture software, which allow changing file output type, or post-processing software, such as PixInsight.

“Katherine Tsai – June 19, 2019:
Are you using ASI071MC Pro in ASIAIR?
ASIAIR outputs RAW fit files which is mono, it can be debayer in the post processing software.”
I am not sure if I understand – when I use this camera with Asiair I will see pictures in mono on tablet etc in Asiair app? And I add color only in post processing stacked image (using software like Gimp, Photoshop etc)?
Katherine Tsai :
“Yes, that’s what my means”
And this will happen also with Asi 294 color and all asi color cameras?

ZWO ASI Camera – :
Sorry,i made a mistake for my latest answer.
You will see the pictures in color when you use the ASI071 MC PRO with Asiair, but the outputs RAW files is mono which are from Asiair.
