ASI1600MM Pro

1600MM Pro21600PRO LOGO

The ASI1600MM Pro is one of the most popular cameras from ZWO. It has gained a reputation as a fantastic camera if you want to get serious about your astrophotography. Some of the highlights include:

  • 4/3” format with 3.8 um pixel size– flexible pixel size for many types of telescopes.
  • 12-bit ADC – giving high dynamic range of 12.5 stops.
  • A solid 20ke- full well capacity– helping to reduce the issue of, for example, saturated stars.
  • 16-megapixel sensor with 4656*3520 pixels– plenty of detail can be captured in high resolution.
  • Read noise as low as 1.2 e-.

DDR Memory Buffer

DDR memory buffer is the main difference between ASI “Cool” and “Pro” cameras.

ASI1600MM Pro camera includes a 256MB DDR3 memory buffer to help improve data transfer reliability. Additionally, the use of a memory buffer minimizes amp-glow, which is caused by the slow transfer speeds when the camera is used with a USB 2.0 port.

Astrophotography Performance

ASI1600 Pro offers very good performance for astrophotography. Low read noise, low dark current, high dynamic range.

ASI1600 has a build-in 12bit ADC but can provide 12.5 stops dynamic range which is even better than KAF8300 due to its super low read noise.

Reliable Mechanical Structures

There are four screws that seal the sensor chamber. Our camera design has been extensively tested and is very stable.

Even when used in higher humidity environments, ASI1600 Pro will still work fine without dew problems.

USB 3.0 Port & USB2.0 HUB

USB 3.0 Port: Provides 5Gb bandwidth to make it possible for ASI1600 Pro to run at 14.7 fps (12bit, normal mode) or 23 fps (10bit, high speed mode) at full resolution (16Mega).
USB 2.0 HUB: Can connect with various accessories,  including a filter wheel, guide camera or electronic focuser, allowing you to manage your cables better. There are two short 0.5m USB2.0 cables included with the ASI1600 Pro. The hub is powered by the external power supply if you connect one.

1600MM Pro4

Cooling System

Thanks to the two-stage TEC cooling, ASI1600MM Pro can lower the CMOS sensor temperature to more than 40-45 degrees Celsius below ambient temperature, which can greatly reduce dark current generation and sensor noise even during extended exposure times.

*The Delta T 40-45℃ is tested at 30℃ ambient temperature. It might get down when the cooling system is working for a long time. Also, as the ambient temperature falls, the Delta T would also decrease.
Please notice that the camera needs to be connected to an external 11-15v power supply to implement the cooling function. We recommend you use 12V@3A DC adapter (5.5*2.1mm, center pole positive) or lithium battery with 11-15V to power the camera. If you don’t have one, please click here to buy a 12V power adapter. There are 4 different standards for different countries, please make sure you selected the correct adapter when placing the order.

      We have 1.25″,31mm,36mm,2″ filters.
So far 1.25″ filter can satisfy your setting.
In the future, 2″ filter can support shorter focal ratio.

Can you tell any solution for it?
I seen in some forum that similar issue been reported by other users.
I use Sharpcap for image capturing. See this image containing vertical banding. https://bit.ly/2AaQZ0m

I have the ASI1600mm-cool and using it with an Explore Scientific 127 refractor. I have recently purchased an Explore Scientific field flattener. The data on the field flattener is that it requires 45mm of backfocus from the flattener to the focal plane. That’s a little less than many which state 55mm. Does that 45mm create issues with using it with the 1600mm?

No, won’t be a problem. But need to make a customized extender to reach 45mm back focus.

Thank you for your previous answer. Is there any chance improve the sensor used in ASI1600 with AR coating on the microlenses? Or the is a technological reason why it is missing?

    Hello Sam.
I’ve got and purchased a ZWO 1600 Pro Mono cooled camera with 31mm filter wheel from your company. So far I love it.
One question… why is it in that I cannot use offset values in SG Pro. I have the latest drivers. People usually talk about gain and offset when imaging in narrowband is there a reason I cannot work with offset values….? Is it because the ZWO 1600 Pro mono assists the offset values automatically when selecting a gain value… ? Thanks…. In addition what should gain values should I use with O3 and Ha and Sii . Thank you very much in taking your time to answer me.

      :

you don’t need to care about offset value if you use our ASCOM driver
you can adjust offset value with the native support of SGP
the gain can be the same with all filters

There are some user reviews on internet about the diffraction pattern around the brightest stars by using this sensor. As I know the conclusion was the missing AR coating above the microlenses. Is this issue already solved in this PRO version of this camera?

Does the ASI1600MM-C Pro version have the same microlens effect on bright stars? My reading/research on the microlens effect is that it is due to the lack of anti-reflecitve coatings on the actual sensor and that Panasonic did not seem interested in fixing the problem. I currently own an ASI1600MM-C. I would consider upgrade to Pro if the microlens problem has been fixed. The ASI1600MM-C is a great camera if there are no bright stars (about mag 4 and brighter) in the field.
