Camera Sensor

Our brand new ASI174MM CMOS Monochrome Imaging Camera is based on the Sony Exmor IMX174 2.35MP sensor with Pregius global shutter technology.

174MM-2

Sony IMX174 CMOS Sensor Features

  • The Sony IMX174 monochrome CMOS sensor that separates the ASI174MM from previous ASI models. This type 1/1.2” Sony CMOS image sensor, with a 5.86µm unit pixel in a 1936 x 1216 array, has a lot of advantages when taking high quality solar, lunar, planetary, and deep sky object images.
  • Pregius Global Shutter function with analog memory permits the scanning of all pixels simultaneously. The Sony IMX174’s global shutter function provides improved image quality by making sure images of moving objects avoid focal plane distortion. This is especially helpful when performing solar or lunar imaging. Bad seeing, wind, or movement can alter the image if the readout speed is not quick enough (< 30fps).
  • Sony Exmor technology uses column-parallel A/D conversion for high speed processing, low noise, and low power dissipation.
  • ROI, or Region of Interest Mode lets you capture up to 16 areas inside the effective pixels. This ability allows for even higher frame rates.
  • High speed imaging with a max of 164.5 fps at 10 bit ADC, and max of 128.2 fps at 12 bit ADC

I’d like to add a lens to it so I can use it as an all sky camera. do you have a lens that works for this?

    • Sam Wen

      :

no, this is one 1″ sensor you need one lens can match the size

I am looking to control this camera(take photos, change exposure and such) using the command line or by writing some code to do it automatically every few seconds. Is there a program or something that would allow me to do this? Thanks.

It looks like the smaller opening just above the sensor is threaded. Does that opening support a 1.25 threaded filter?

    • Sean Wang

      :

Yes, the camera can use 1.25 filters.

sorry for flooding this topic but is this camera has removable M42 extender like asi1600 ?

Also in this page technical drawing shows it has 6.5mm backfocus which is incorrect. And also at the manuals its written that uncooled 174 has 12.5mm , cooled version has 17.5mm backfocus.

i want to use Asi174MM + 7 position 36mm filter wheel with Canon Eos lens. As far i as i know Asi174MM has 17.5mm back focus . So is it possible to use EOS Lens Adapter for EFW & ASI1600 with additional 10mm spacer ? . Or if oyu have any suggestion to use 174MM+Filter Wheel+ EOS lens i’d be aprriciated

I’m loving the ASI174mm. It’s really fast with FireCapture and it is fine as the guide camera on your OAG – it focused up just fine. It also bins great too. I’m using the asi071 as the main camera with the 21.5mm extension with no additional extension on the 174.

Would you use the D25 UV/IR cut window on the 174mm for OAG guiding or just use the supplied AR window?

    0

    0
    • Sam Wen

      :

you don’t need UV/IR cut window for guiding

    Hi Sam,

I ordered a ASI174mm but now I’m worried it not will achieve focus with your AOG and my ASI071. My calculations make me think the 174 will be short about 1 or 2 mm from achieving focus when pushed all the way in. I’m using your OAG with the 21.5mm extension so I can’t add more length there. What do you think? I don’t think your low profile 1.25″ cover will help me – right?

      :

our OAG support all ASI cameras if the back focus of your system is 55mm

  8. :

    Hi Sam,
I already have the 224mc and the 290mm (love them both) and am looking for a camera that will have a larger field of view. Will I be disappointed with the 174mm for wider field planetary imaging? Clarification – will I see a difference in resolution when I running at critical sampling. What is the camera’s current availability? Thanks for your fine products!

    Hi Sam

I want to Know if this camera was tested as a guiding camera at OAG in a MEADE LX 200 12 inch OTA in native output
    Thanks

    • Sam Wen

      :

yes, you can use it as a guiding camera at OAG

  10. :

Also Sam, I want a great camera for OAG guiding on my 2800mm SCT, Is the ASI174mm a good choice? My ASI224 has trouble getting a high enough S/N it seems, and the pickoff mirror on the ZWO OAG can take a little larger sensor or I can possibly drill it to almost 8mm. Any suggestions would be welcome! I assume the 174 would be at least twice the sensitivity, right?

    • Sam Wen

      :

Yes, 174 is the best one
it is sensitive and large enough

  11. :

Does the ASI174 have the same amp glow reduction as the QHY174 version? Your service and software are better but the 1.25 size, amp glow reduction and short back focus are tempting… Will your low profile 1.25″ cover work?

    0

    0
    • Sam Wen

      :

yes, there is amp glow reduction
just it’s not so effective as 224

our low profile 1.25″ cover works with 174

it should be 300s, the cooled one support 1000s exposure

Accroding to the specification, the working temperature is -5 ~ 45 deg. C.
Does it mean the camera does not work at cold environment such as -20 deg. C?

    0
    • Sam Wen

yes, you need to warm the camera under such cooled enviroment

Does this camera have a buffer to help minimize dropped frames during high-speed imaging?

    0

    0
    • Sam Wen

      :

the buffer is very small, so dropping or not mainly depends on your PC side
