Product Description
With the ability to capture light in the near-infrared portion of the spectrum, and the super high sensitivity combined with ultra-low readout noise, this camera is considered as the highly improved version of ASI290MC. It will offer great performance for planetary, solar and lunar imaging. Some highlights include:
- Sony IMX462 1/2.8” format 12bit ADC
- 2.9um pixel size
- Well depth of 2ke-
- Total of 2.1 mega pixel accommodating a resolution of 1936*1096
- Ultra-low read noise of 0.5e- to 2.6e-
IMX462 sensor
The format of the IMX462 sensor is 1/2.8”. The sensor length and width are 5.6mm*3.2mm and the diagonal is 6.46mm. The resolution is 1936*1096.
HCG mode
The cameras has a built-in HCG mode which can effectively reduce the readout noise at high gain and keep the same wide dynamic range as you would expect at low gain. When the gain is 80, the HCG mode will automatically turn on. This results in the read noise being as low as 0.47e- while the dynamic range still can reach close to 12 stops.
QE curve
ASI462 has very high QE value at 800-1000nm wavelength (almost 2 times higher than that of ASI290MC). The sensitivity in near-infrared light region ranks first among all ASI planetary cameras.
ASI462MC vs ASI290MC
In general, ASI462MC and ASI290MC share very similar characteristics but ASI462MC has some benefits in its favor in terms of lower readout noise and higher QE value.
USB 3.0 Port & ST4 Port
USB 3.0 Port: Providing 5Gb bandwidth to let ASI462 run at 136.1fps (10bit, high speed mode) or 63.9fps (12bit, normal mode) at full resolution(2.1Mega).
ST4 Port: Can be used to connect with auto guide port of mount for guiding.

Hi all,
Probably an amateur question. What is referred to CH4 in the drop download selection window?

ZWO.Moson – :
CH4 is refer to filter. There is the link for your reference: https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/product/zwo-1-25-20nm-ch4-filter

Dear ZWO Team,
Assuming the AR window in the ASI462MC is your ZWO D21… according to your graph the transmission of the AR at 850nm is about 85%. Theoretically, in terms of sensitivity and exposure time, it would make sense to remove the AR window when imaging with an external IR-pass filter. Do you agree?
Irrespective of this, your ASI462MC is another masterpiece of development.
Cheers
Robert

ZWO.Moson – :
Hi Robert,
Thank you for your supporting!
There is no need to remove the AR window when imaging with an external IR-pass filter.

Arthur Wiegman – :
Asicap does not recognize the ASI 462 MC camera, but the ASI 174 does; how is this possible?
0
0
ZWO.Moson – :
Because the ASI462MC is our new camera while the ASI174 is older one. You could update the ASICAP software.

Must I remove the lens when i’m attaching to my telescope? How do I do that?

0
ZWO.Moson – :
Yes, you should remove the lens when you take planetary image. And screw the 1.25″ nose piece on to the ASI462MC, then attach your telescope.

Just purchased the 462 and found out from tech support that it is not supported in the current version of ASIAIR Software… 144 I think. Can you tell me when The new version of ASIAIR will come out? I’d really like to use my new camera!!

Hello, dear ZWO team,
The other day, I purchased your ASI462MC from KYOEI Tokyo, but haven’t had much time for testing.
Can you confirm that the ASI462MC’s Bayer matrix becomes transparent starting from a certain infrared wavelength, and if so, is this state comparable with a monochrome camera in terms of image resolution?
Thanks a lot!
Robert

ZWO.Moson – :
Sorry the camera can not become transparent on any wavelength. It’s high QE value does not mean this camera can pass through all the light in the infrared band.

Hello,
Which one would you recommend, the Asi 224MC or 462MC for using on Celestron C8 and which one be better for lucky DSO photos?

Which one you would recommend, the Asi 462MC or 178MM for using on lunt 50mm/F7 solar scope?
Might be better to wait for the release Asi 462MM ?
Thanks !

Katherine Tsai – :
462 is more sensitive in infrared lights, but 178 has bigger sensor which gives bigger FOV, you can also simulate the FOV here.http://astronomy.tools/calculators/field_of_view/

Hello,
can I use a ZWO UV/IR Passfilter with this model ?
0

Katherine Tsai – :
Yes, you can add but this camera has higher sensibility in infrared so it will block infrared light you add one.

Dear ZWO Team,
Not sure whether Sony has a monochrome version of the IMX462, but if yes, and in view of the fantastic IR response, are you planning an ASI462MM?

Does this camera have “Sony Starvis” and “sHCG (super high conversion gain)” system?
and what content the product includes. The same camera was sold by its competitors with (1.25 inch IR cut filter and 1.25 inch IR850 filter).
Regards.
