Product Description
With the ability to capture light in the near-infrared portion of the spectrum, and the super high sensitivity combined with ultra-low readout noise, this camera is considered as the highly improved version of ASI290MC. It will offer great performance for planetary, solar and lunar imaging. Some highlights include:
- Sony IMX462 1/2.8” format 12bit ADC
- 2.9um pixel size
- Well depth of 2ke-
- Total of 2.1 mega pixel accommodating a resolution of 1936*1096
- Ultra-low read noise of 0.5e- to 2.6e-
IMX462 sensor
The format of the IMX462 sensor is 1/2.8”. The sensor length and width are 5.6mm*3.2mm and the diagonal is 6.46mm. The resolution is 1936*1096.
HCG mode
The cameras has a built-in HCG mode which can effectively reduce the readout noise at high gain and keep the same wide dynamic range as you would expect at low gain. When the gain is 80, the HCG mode will automatically turn on. This results in the read noise being as low as 0.47e- while the dynamic range still can reach close to 12 stops.
QE curve
ASI462 has very high QE value at 800-1000nm wavelength (almost 2 times higher than that of ASI290MC). The sensitivity in near-infrared light region ranks first among all ASI planetary cameras.
ASI462MC vs ASI290MC
In general, ASI462MC and ASI290MC share very similar characteristics but ASI462MC has some benefits in its favor in terms of lower readout noise and higher QE value.
USB 3.0 Port & ST4 Port
USB 3.0 Port: Providing 5Gb bandwidth to let ASI462 run at 136.1fps (10bit, high speed mode) or 63.9fps (12bit, normal mode) at full resolution(2.1Mega).
ST4 Port: Can be used to connect with auto guide port of mount for guiding.

Regarding my questions from above, does the 462 also have an anti-glow function like the 385? When does it start, greater than 0.5 seconds?

Hi ZWO Team,
I’m between the 385 and 462. My aim is to do EAA on an alt-az mount. Sure 462 is best for IR-planetary…
I know the 385 has a anti-glow function.
Does the 462 also have that?
Do you think a read noise of 1.0 instead of 1.5 makes a big difference?
Which one can you recommed for EAA?

I purchased the ASI462MC and when I take images of M42 or Jupiter they always show in black and white on the ASIAIR PRO live and preview… even my saved images are black and white. I don’t know much about cameras (or if we are supposed to keep the AR window on the camera when using it to image on telescope?) but isn’t this supposed to be a color camera?
What settings do I need to change in ASIAIR PRO to have it show in color in preview/live and save images in color?
Thank you!

Support@ZWO – :
Please add IR Cut filter.

We have IRCUT filter: https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/product/1-25-uv-ir-cut-filter
you can connect the IRCUT filter by thread, no need to remove optical window;-)

For weeks i have been frustrated with the color that this camera produces. Now someone suggested that I use a UV/IR cut filter. I have an Optolong L-Pro filter which I just used to take an image in my LR and it makes a notable difference. I don’t understand why your website didn’t tell me that such a filter is necessary or I would have used my L-Pro filter or bought a UV/IR cut filter weeks ago.
Just to be sure, is one of these filters necessary to image planets with this camera? If so that needs to be explicitly stated on your website. Also, am I better off using L-Pro filter or UV/IR cut filter?

ZWO.Moson – :
It is not necessary to use UV/IR cut filter. Infrared sensitivity is the main feature of this camera.
