Product Description

ASI462MC body

ASI462MC parameters

With the ability to capture light in the near-infrared portion of the spectrum, and the super high sensitivity combined with ultra-low readout noise, this camera is considered as the highly improved version of ASI290MC. It will offer great performance for planetary, solar and lunar imaging. Some highlights include:

  • Sony IMX462 1/2.8” format 12bit ADC
  • 2.9um pixel size
  • Well depth of 2ke-
  • Total of 2.1 mega pixel accommodating a resolution of 1936*1096
  • Ultra-low read noise of 0.5e- to 2.6e-

IMX462 sensor

The format of the IMX462 sensor is 1/2.8”. The sensor length and width are 5.6mm*3.2mm and the diagonal is 6.46mm. The resolution is 1936*1096.

HCG mode

The cameras has a built-in HCG mode which can effectively reduce the readout noise at high gain and keep the same wide dynamic range as you would expect at low gain. When the gain is 80, the HCG mode will automatically turn on. This results in the read noise being as low as 0.47e- while the dynamic range still can reach close to 12 stops.

QE curve

ASI462 has very high QE value at 800-1000nm wavelength (almost 2 times higher than that of ASI290MC). The sensitivity in near-infrared light region ranks first among all ASI planetary cameras.

ASI462MC vs ASI290MC

In general, ASI462MC and ASI290MC share very similar characteristics but ASI462MC has some benefits in its favor in terms of lower readout noise and higher QE value.

USB 3.0 Port & ST4 Port

USB 3.0 Port: Providing 5Gb bandwidth to let ASI462 run at 136.1fps (10bit, high speed mode) or 63.9fps (12bit, normal mode) at full resolution(2.1Mega).

ST4 Port: Can be used to connect with auto guide port of mount for guiding.

    Hello;
I would like to test my ASI462MC in deep sky.
What size ROI can you choose for that?

There is no need to ROI in deep sky.

I’m really confused as for how many megapixels with camera has. Maybe because I don’t know anything about AP, but… I read these lines in several parts of the description and I think there must be an error or something!
“Total of 1 megapixel accommodating a resolution of 1936*1096”
    “Resolution: 21 Mega Pixels, 1936*1096”
Then, in a table that is actually an image, it says 2.1 MP.

Which one is correct? or are all correct in different ways?

    Thanks!

      Truly sorry for the mistake.
The 2.1 MP is correct, we will update our website asap.

I just purchased the 462mc + CH4 filter. Is it normal that when i attach the filter its all dark when pointing for example to Jupiter? Am i doing something wrong?

1 Make sure the target is in the field of view.
2 Increase the exposure time and gain.

How does the 462MC stack up against the 224MC for imaging planets? I have seen the specs for both but am interested in knowing if the 462 can be called an upgrade or improved on the 224. Thanks!

The 462MC is better that 224MC,462 is considered as the highly improved version of ASI290MC.

I want to continue to make pictures of planets , moon and small DS objects, with a newton 200/1000.
    I want to replace my 120MC. I tried a 224MC. Both are good .
I hesitate between 185MC and 462MC. Are they supported by Sharcapture ?
Wich one is the best for me ? another one (under 500€) ?

    Hello
I’m interested in it’s near infrared capability.
With IR pass filter, I think we can image galaxy even in light polluted area
So, I want Pro/Cool version as well.
Do you have any plan for that?

The QE plot only goes up to 1000 nm, whereas there is probably significant QE up to and even slightly above 1100nm. Can you share a plot that shows the QE all the way up to the longest wavelength at which the QE is essentially 0? What is the transmission plot of the AR coated camera window? Is the AR window open to 1100 nm?
