I recently purchased an ASI2600MC-P as my imaging camera and an ASI290MM as my guide scope camera (with PHD2) – all with ASI (and other) software on a Win10 laptop. I am also using a Pegasus Powerbox Adv Gen1 for power management.

Before I order a new ASIAIR Plus, I would like to know if the AIR Plus will support both cameras in those roles? Will ASIAIR Plus power the ASI2600MC-P (12v – 3A)? What is the capacity (max amps) of the power distribution component of the AIR Plus? and finally, will it support a external (USB) SSD storage?

Thank you… I’m looking forward to your timely response… and, by the way, I have watched Trevor Jones’ video on his appreciation of what the ASIAIRPlus did for him in his testing… and I am enthusiastic!

Yes, the ASIAIR Plus supports the ASI2600MC-P and ASI290MM.
The Plus can power the ASI2600MC-P.
      The max amps is 6A.
It supports an external (USB) SSD storage.

I got an ASIAIR-Pro about a year ago and found it much easier and more convenient to use than a laptop. You don’t need to install many pieces of required software (ASCOM platform, plate solvers and associated data base, imaging capture software) and drivers, setup COM ports and remember to plug in to the same USB port every time. It simply works. First, it makes accurate polar alignment process (using the main camera) rapid and almost pain free. After that, you simply pick a target and it does the go-to, and automatically center the target vis plate solve which is also very speedy. You then started guiding via PHD (albeit the light version without a lot of control of the parameter) and setup auto run for image acquisitions. I liked it so much that I ordered a second one so that I can setup two imaging systems to get more done considering that there are few and far between clear sky nights in New Jersey. Additionally, it consume much less power (<5 W) than a laptop (20-50W) which can be important for imaging at remote sites without power lines.
The main issue with the ASIAIR-Pro was the short range of WIFI due to internal antenna. When I saw the recently announced ASIAIR PLUS with external antenna, I immediately ordered one. Indeed, the WIFI range seems much better and data transfer speedier. I can connect to it inside the house reliably except at the other end of the house. Compared with the older version, its power consumption did not seem to increase either.
I am a littler surprised and disappointed that it did not include an USB thumb drive (64 GB) as in the older version. The guiding should also provide more controls such as minimum movement of the guiding star before any correction applied, and declination backlash compensation which can be important for many mounts. I also hope that it would support high grade auto focusers such as those from Moonlite and Feathertouch etc. While it offers switching to a second ASIAIR device in use at the same time, it does not synchronize to the actual status of the latter which lead to confusion about which device is it controlling.

Overall, I am very happy with the new ASIAIR Plus and recommend it highly to all imagers.
    Matt

My initial comments as an Experience Officer:
    – Much improved Wifi range (over ASI Air Pro) – can keep connected with iPad inside my house (Brick/stone exterior)
    – ASI Air Pro/Plus are small and light enough to strap (I use a small bungee cord) to my side counterweight and significantly reduces cables hanging off my rig. Significantly reduced risk of cords getting hung up.
    – Powering my ZWO 2600MC Pro with cooling from the ASI Air Plus (Air Pro also powered it just fine)
-With the ASI Air Plus/Pro, I can also hold my iPad in one hand, stand next to my telescope and focus! No more darting back and forth between my focusing knob and my laptop screen, or trying to look around my rig at my laptop screen! I can hold my iPad in one hand, and focus with the other.
    – eMMC (~20GB usable storage) is nice for DSOs, but for planetary video capture, large USB stick is preferred.
    – Another advantage of USB stick or MicroSD card is that files can be transferred directly off the USB stick/microSD card without first copying/moving from the eMMC drive
    – Same excellent ASI Air app platform.
-ASI Studio – ASI DeepStack – simple, powerful stacker that is easy to use, produces great results. Please add ability to save output as TIFF, something more than just Jpegs. FITs output file is great and I can port into DeepSkyStacker to convert to TIFF, but would be better to have option to output directly to TIFF
    – Autorun is the only place I have been able to figure out where to identify the object in the filename string. This was difficult to find and remember the first few times I used the app. Recommend moving the Target to the main dashboard with the ability to edit from the Autorun menu.
    – I recently upgraded from an unmodified Nikon D7000 DSLR to my ZWO 2600MC Pro. Tried once with my laptop…clunky and limited success. Been out three Fridays in a row (weather has been wonderful). ASI Air Pro and ASI Air Plus both worked wonderfully! Both made this former DSLR imager, never want to return.
-While capturing Jupiter with the ZWO 224MC I just received, periodically, there would be a jumbled frame, or I would notice the feed to my iPad would freeze/pause. This did not appear to happen with my ZWO 2600MC Pro. Both are color cameras. Maybe a defective ZWO 224MC?
    – Transfer rate to the iPad is ~12-13 MB/s. Wish it were full gigabit wifi…would help with reducing lag between taking a photo and appearing on my iPad screen. However, does its job well and only a small nit.
    – Have not yet tried autoguiding (bypassing my native Starlock system yet).
    – Just got my EAF…have not yet had an opportunity to try it out yet.
