The body is CNC milled from an aircraft graded aluminum block.
We decided to make it thinner, where it measures only 20 mm on the wheel body.

cemian

The heart of our EFW comes from NPM, Japan, whose the manufactor for the stepmotor and the quality is trustful and reliable. Guaranteed long life.

We have two specifications:

TYPE1: 8 positions, 1.25″ or 31mm filter can be used.

TYPE2: 7 positions, 36mm filter can be used.

The Electronic Filter wheel can be rotated in both counter clockwise or clockwise direction for filter selection.

There are no need for multiple cables to power this wheel up, just one USB cable does the trick. The power consumption of this EFW is approximately 120mAh @ 5V, which can be operated from the Cooled CCD’s USB hub.

The distance between the filter and sensor is around 10mm when you connect it to ASI1600.

So 1.25″ filters won’t have vignetting up to F5 focal ratio scope and 31mm filter won’t have vignetting up to F2 lens.

Our new RGBL filters are recommended to work with ASI1600, it will offer nearly 1:1:1 RGB color balance.

In order to achieve the 55mm back focus required by the ASI294MM pro. This filter wheel will be replacing the 21mm spacer that comes with the camera?

    Thank you

The 31mm unmounted filters can be used in the EFW. You could refer to the description “How to install the filter?” on the website.

7*36MM can be used with ASI183, but for this camera, 1.25″ filter is enough.

I purchased a used EFW (for 1.25” filters) and ASI1600mm several months ago, as well as some Baader filters. I installed the filters and tested the EFW connected to the camera using both ASICAP and AstroImager and the filter wheel appeared to work just fine. This weekend I finally had time to connect this combo to a camera lens for daytime testing. Everything worked well for while but then the EFW began to act up, Filters would only change part way, not lining up with the EFW holes. Or they wouldn’t move at all when I tried to switch filters. When they did moved it seemed noisy and the movement was intermittent. I was using an Orion Dynamo Pro for power and thought maybe it was losing its charge, so switched to a fully charged 12v battery, but it made no difference. Has my EFW gone bad? How noisy should it be when changing filters?

Please make sure the height of your filter is lower than 7.5mm, and the depth of the thread is lower than 2.5mm.
And you can clean the light sensor inside the EFW.

5mm thick filters can be fixed with longer screws.

Can the EFW-8 attach to the ASI294MC PRO? (Yes, I understand some of the issues combining additional optical filters with the Bayer matrix; I am questioning the mechanical attachment and operation.) Thanks for your time.

How repeatable are the filter positions? Should flat-field exposures be taken before switching filters, or can the acquisition of flats wait to the end of the night?

      :

Usually the position will not change.
You can take the flat field at any time.
We recommend you to clean the dust on the filters.

Because different version will have compatibility issue.
After doing the changing operation, it may have unexpected problems.

If I changed the carousel from 8 x 1.25inch/31mm to 7 x 36mm, will the filter wheel automatically identify the new carousal and act accordingly or will it need some internal micro-controller reprogramming?

How can I order the carousel separately?

    Thank you

31mm is big enough to avoid vignetting. 36mm will be better.

    Hi,

I am posting here so others can benefit.
I got really confused because documentation lists #6 – spacers and then instructs to screw filters with washers. I noticed that the spacers had three holes matching the ones on the wheel around filters. But when I tried them they were overlapping a bit, so I thought it was wrong.

To summarize, washers are no longer included since beginning of 2018. They are replaced by masks (#6 – spacers on the parts list). Those masks are meant to eliminate reflection issues with unmounted narrow band filters. Overlapping is normal in current design.

If you want to update your documentation you can use the picture I sent to support by email. I hereby give you all rights to use it.

Thanks for your help and great products!

    Hi,
I just ordered the 8-whole EWF and the ASI1600MM Pro mono. In your description it says the distance between the filter and the sensor for the ASI1600MM Pro mono is about 10mm and the EWF body is 20mm. I need 55mm backfocus for a reducer/flattener. I want to get a Baader VariLock 29 or 46. Question:

Do I need to space the difference between 55mm and 10mm or between 55m and 20mm?

    Thank you!

    Roman

No, Sam. I’m not talking about the wheel. I know the camera goes on the motor side. I’m talking about the actual filters. It’s difficult to know the coated side from the other and so they might be placed in the wheel in reverse. Is there a way to tell … better than the picture on your website?
