Does this camera have an IR cut window? Can I use this camera with Astronomik ProPlanet 742nm IR pass filter?

    • Sam Wen

the mono version 174 come with a AR coat window
so you can use any other filters

  2. :

Will this work as well as the non-cooled 174 for solar imaging?

  3. (verified owner):

FireCapture freezes when attempting to run ASI 174MM-Cool through USB 2.0 port. Can one run ASI 174MM-Cool through USB 2.0 port for lunar/planetary or astroimaging?

    • Sam Wen

it work as well as the non-cooled 174 for solar imaging, there is no difference between them except temperature

you can try to adjust “USB Traffic”, maybe this value is too high

  4. :

Does the ASI 174MM-Cool particularly fit to Deep Sky shot, thank’s to its Pixels size of 5,86…?

    • Sam Wen

Yes, this is the best suitable among these cooled cameras for it’s 1″ size

  5. (verified owner):

I installed the 174MM-Cool in December, on my Lenovo Windows 8.1 laptop. I successfully obtained a number of lunar images.
I then purchased and installed the 178MC-Cool on the same machine and obtained some colour deep sky images.
Last night I went to use the mono 174MM-Cool again, to find that it was no longer installed on the system. Device Manager – Imaging Devices showed only the 178MC, so it looks as though the second installation has overwritten the first.
Is this because the device driver is common to all the USB3 cameras?
Will I have to re-install each camera when I want to use it?

    • Sam Wen

the driver is the same of these 2 cameras
can you see anything change in device manager when you plugin or out the camera?
please email us if you still have this problem

  6. (verified owner):

When I installed the 174MM-Cool, it was through a powered USB3 hub. A 3-metre USB3 cable ran from the camera to the hub and a 1 metre cable from the hub to the laptop. Lunar image capture worked well.
I then installed the 178MC-Cool and tranferred the end of the 3-metre cable to it, from the 174mm-Cool. Image capture worked well.

Now, when I transfer between the cameras, Device Manager does not update and neither Sharpcap or Nebulosity 4 recognise the camera.

When I transfer the other end of the 3-metre cable between ports on the USB hub, the individual port light comes on and Device Manager updates. The camera shows up in Sharpcap or Nebulosity, but when contact is attempted, the link fails, Device Manager no longer lists the camera and the USB3 light goes out.

When I connect the cameras directly to the USB3 port on the laptop (bypassing the hub), everyrthing works as it should. Device Manager is updated and Sharpcap and Nebulosity link to the cameras.

The cable lengths and USB3 hub were OK when only the 174MM-Cool was installed, but apparently not now that the 178Mc-Cool was added.

Any suggestions? I don’t have a spare USB (either 2 or 3) port on the laptop.

  7. (verified owner):

Problem now seems to be solved.
I replaced the USB3 hub with a higher-quality Anker unit and now Device Manager updates correctly when the two cameras are switched. The applications connect properly, image capture takes place and set-point cooling is controllable.
The cables are the same, so it was something about the specific hub.

    • Sam Wen

      that’s good news!

  8. :

Can the camera be used as a guide camera? Does it work for both planetary and DO or is just for moon and sun?

    • Sam Wen

yes, it build in ST4 port
so you can use it as a guide camera too
planetary and DSO imaging is its main job

  9. :

Will the camera SDK work with LabView?

    • Sam Wen

yes, but you need to do the program yourself

    • Sam Wen

yes, but you need to call as dll

  10. :

Can you tell me what the thread diameter and pitch is of the black 2″ profile cover?

    • Sam Wen

do you mean the threads connect the camera body?

  11. :

Is it possible to operate the camera without 12V power(only connect with usb3.0 cable)?
If I would like to use the camera without cooling, is it possible to operate the camera with usb3.0 cable?

    • Sam Wen

YES,12V power supply is only for cooler

  12. :

    Hello Sam

how i can get a promotional code to buy ASI174MM?
on website, it is out stock until November 2016, now is January 2017, it is in stock now?
    Thank you

  13. :

Is the ASI174MM more sensitive and better autoguiding camera than the ASI290mm because of the larger pixels and FOV?

    • Sam Wen

you can bin2 290 to achieve same pixel size of 174
but the FOV of 174 is larger

  14. :

Sam, will the new batch have USB hub in the back? Any other changes? Thank you!

    • Sam Wen

yes, added USB Hub, no other changes

  15. :

Sam, when will the 174MM-C be available again for purchase?

    • Sam Wen

      yes, available now

  16. :

Can a 1.25″ filter be used for this camera readily? Any extra accessory needed?

    • Sam Wen

yes, it come with 1.25″ adapter
you can screw filter on it

  17. :

What is your experience using this camera through MicroManager / for microscopy? Is there noticeable vibration due to the cooler?

    • Sean Wang

It works well in MicroManager, there is no such noticeable vibration.

  18. :

I am interested in this camera, but I read, that with my telescope (150/750 f5 Newtonian) this camera will give undersampling. I also looked at ASI178MM-cool bit it gonna give big undersampling. The only OK cam is ASI290MM, but it is discontinued (why?).
Please, help me choose camera. I willing to take short exposures subs (up to 2min) for DSO. As I said, I have F/5 newtonian (150/750).
