ZWO’s new cooled version of ASI174MM mono CMOS Imaging Camera  allows the sensor to be cooled to 35C to 40C degrees below ambient!

Here is a 60s long exposure dark file of this Camera

the  1″ sensor size and 5.86 pixel size of ASI174 make it very suitable for DSO imaging for most scopes

The high QE and low read noise and super fast speed of ASI174 make it to be a camera capable for all

    Does this camera have an IR cut window? Can I use this camera with Astronomik ProPlanet 742nm IR pass filter?

    FireCapture freezes when attempting to run ASI 174MM-Cool through USB 2.0 port. Can one run ASI 174MM-Cool through USB 2.0 port for lunar/planetary or astroimaging?

      it work as well as the non-cooled 174 for solar imaging, there is no difference between them except temperature

      you can try to adjust “USB Traffic”, maybe this value is too high

    I installed the 174MM-Cool in December, on my Lenovo Windows 8.1 laptop. I successfully obtained a number of lunar images.
    I then purchased and installed the 178MC-Cool on the same machine and obtained some colour deep sky images.
    Last night I went to use the mono 174MM-Cool again, to find that it was no longer installed on the system. Device Manager – Imaging Devices showed only the 178MC, so it looks as though the second installation has overwritten the first.
    Is this because the device driver is common to all the USB3 cameras?
    Will I have to re-install each camera when I want to use it?

      the driver is the same of these 2 cameras
      can you see anything change in device manager when you plugin or out the camera?

    When I installed the 174MM-Cool, it was through a powered USB3 hub. A 3-metre USB3 cable ran from the camera to the hub and a 1 metre cable from the hub to the laptop. Lunar image capture worked well.
    I then installed the 178MC-Cool and tranferred the end of the 3-metre cable to it, from the 174mm-Cool. Image capture worked well.

    Now, when I transfer between the cameras, Device Manager does not update and neither Sharpcap or Nebulosity 4 recognise the camera.

    When I transfer the other end of the 3-metre cable between ports on the USB hub, the individual port light comes on and Device Manager updates. The camera shows up in Sharpcap or Nebulosity, but when contact is attempted, the link fails, Device Manager no longer lists the camera and the USB3 light goes out.

    When I connect the cameras directly to the USB3 port on the laptop (bypassing the hub), everyrthing works as it should. Device Manager is updated and Sharpcap and Nebulosity link to the cameras.

    The cable lengths and USB3 hub were OK when only the 174MM-Cool was installed, but apparently not now that the 178Mc-Cool was added.

    Any suggestions? I don’t have a spare USB (either 2 or 3) port on the laptop.

    Sam,

    Problem now seems to be solved.
    I replaced the USB3 hub with a higher-quality Anker unit and now Device Manager updates correctly when the two cameras are switched. The applications connect properly, image capture takes place and set-point cooling is controllable.
    The cables are the same, so it was something about the specific hub.

      so you can use it as a guide camera too
      planetary and DSO imaging is its main job

      but the FOV of 174 is larger
