ASI1600MC QE

This camera can run without external power supply in normal mode

we recommends 12V at 3A or more DC adapter for cooler power supply(2.1*5.5, center positive)

Battery from 9-15V is also suitable for cooler power supply

Now we have released the ASI1600 V3(right one) which we did a lot of mechincal improvments:

-Fix front cover with screws to avoid unscrew the cover off by mistake.

also this design can transfer the heat from the heat sink to the front window better to avoid dew problem happen.

-Add the air socket, so you can attach desiccant tube to make the sensor chamber dry again when needed.

  1. :

Hello, wich type of shutter is at this camera type?
    Thanks for answer.
    Petr

    • Sam Wen

      :

      it’s rolling shutter

  2. :

Hi i like to know what sensor you are using in your cameras cant find it in the specifications ?

    Best regards F

    • Sam Wen

      :

sorry, sensor factory don’t want us to make the name public
we can only tell:it is the same on Olympus’s DSLM: E-M1

  3. :

    Hi Sam
I see sample images . Starlight ghost appear. Do you think a measure for them ?

    • Sam Wen

      :

starlight ghost usually come from other source such like filters instead of the camera

  4. :

    Hi Sam
    I think two reasons .
One reason is distance between a sensor and filter is too close.
Another one is a coating of filter .
Then distance between a sensor and filter to be a little more far and try to improve a coating of filter .
I hope your product to be better .

  5. (verified owner):

    Hello Sam,

With the removable M42 extender in place on the ASI1600, the Back Focus Distance switches from 6.5 mm to 17.5 mm. Do you confirm?
    Best regards
    Pierre

    • Sam Wen

      :

      yes, you are correct

  6. :

Hi Sam Wen, I would like to use ASI 1600MC-Cool but not sure the way to hook it up to Celestron focal reducer as http://www.celestron.com/browse-shop/astronomy/astroimaging-accessories/reducers/reducer-corrector

Does ASI 1600MC-Cool come with the compatible adapter? Or can indicate the adapter I need.

    • Sam Wen

      :

usually these reducer designed for DSLR whose back focus distance is 55mm
so you need an extender to use it with our camera
we already provide an 18.5mm M42 extender, so you just need another 20 or 19mm extender to reach 55mm distance

  7. :

Hi Sam Wen, does ASI 1600MC-Cool come with easily remove IR-CUT filter?

    • Sam Wen

      :

we changed it with an AR protect window finally

  8. :

Hello does this camera need IR filter when using refractors or is it inbuilt?

    • Sam Wen

      :

for the final release version we choose to use build in AR window
so you need an extra 1.25″ IR-CUT filter

  9. :

    Hi Sam,

I see a lot of deepsky images when I look for results for this camera. But I guess you are able to capture planets too with this camera as well.
Is this camera really designed for deepsky imaging solely or can I also use it to image planets and the moon. Or is the chip too big for planetary imaging?

    Kind regards,

    Rene

    • Sam Wen

      :

yes, you can use it for moon or solar imaging
and it support ROI, so planetary imaging is suitable too
      this is an all-in-one camera

  10. :

    Here I am again.
I am planning to buy this camera and also like to buy the new EOS T2 adapter since I already have an EOS adapter for my 2 inch focusser. I now use a Canon 450D in prime focus. Will it be suitable and will I be able to focus?

    • Sam Wen

      :

yes, any eos lens is supported

  11. (verified owner):

You say that this camera uses an AR window for protection. Witch one should I order or does it come with the lense I already orderd?

    • Sam Wen

      :

it come with a AR protect window
so you may need a IR cut filter for imaging

  12. :

    Hi,
I bought a ASI1600MC-cooled recently and I have not been able to use it with Sequence Generator Pro.
There is a ASI ASCOM option in SGP’s camera selection.
Error message comes up during focus and framing.
I am told by SPG developer that the ASI ASCOM doesn’t work with ZWO cameras at present.
    Is there a fix soon?
    Regards,
    Samuel

    • Sam Wen

      :

seems we don’t have this problem with our latest ASCOM driver
you can CC the email to us too
I am sure the author can fix it soon
      he has an ASI1600 too

  13. :

    Hi again,
I want to use my Nikon lenses with the ASI1600MC cooled and there is only a Canon adaptor currently.
Is ZWO making the Nikon version available soon?
    Thanks!
    Samuel

    • Sam Wen

      :

not right now, we only provide one Nikon to Canon adapter

  14. :

    Thanks Sam,
Where can I get the Nikon to Canon adapter? Its ZWO brand?
Maybe I missed it but I couldn’t find it on the ZWO website.

    • Sam Wen

      :

still didnot upload, we will upload soon
      this is a universal adapter

  15. :

    Hello,

To connect this camera to my Skywatcher Ed100 Focal Reducer (55mm Backfocus M48 connector), I will need a 37.5mm (M48 to M42) spacer to connect to your M42 connector, which is connected to the camera? (17.5+37.5 = 55) Is this correct?
Sorry, first time I have to deal with back focus..

    Thanks, Stefan.

    • Sam Wen

      :

      yes, you are correct
there is a 18.5mm M42-M48 adapter come with the camera
so maybe just one 37.5-18.5=19mm T2 spacer is ok too

  16. (verified owner):

What is the sensor hieght width and offset?

    • Sam Wen

      :

      it’s 17.6mm*13.3mm

  17. (verified owner):

    Hello Sam

I bought this camera and i think that i should to use for deep sky photo filtr IR/UV cut. Have You any sutable to ASI 1600?
And second question: sometimes i would like connect Nikon lens to ASI1600 have you any sutable adapter?

    Best regards
    Stefan

    • Sam Wen

      :

the easiest way should be screw one 1.25″ IR-CUT to inside of the T2-1.25″ filter adapter
so 1.25″ filter should have no vegnetting for F5 system

  18. (verified owner):

Does I propely understand? I should unskerw 4 skrews and remove the glass and in this place insert 1,25 IR/UF filter? Can you explain me in details
    Best regards
    Stefan Chmielewski

  19. :

Just purchased a ZWO ASI1600MC, I own a Skywatcher 80mm PROED Refractor and a Skywatcher 250mm Reflector. Both with Moonlite focuser’s. I am new into astroimaging, I have an NEQ6 Pro mount. I know this CMOS camera has an AR window. I ordered an Explore Scientific CLS 2″ filter with the camera. Will this suffice for IR/UV for the Refractor?

    Not terribly familiar with filters…

    • Sam Wen

      :

yes, no need for UV/IR cut any more
      CLS build in UV/IR CUT

  20. :

I did not see the ST4 port and cable for the newer version of ASI1600MC.
    Is it right?

    Thank you
    Richard

    • Sam Wen

      :

the new 1600 removed ST4 port, USB2.0 Hub added

Hello, what is the ideal distance between the sensor and the corrector of a 120 skywatcher esprit.
    Thank you

    Pascal

    • Sam Wen

      :

      usually it should be 55mm

  22. (verified owner):

hi, Sam. I also thought, but skywatcher say 75mm, it is possible ??

    • Sam Wen

      :

      you’d better check carefully

  23. :

I need an upgrade package, rebuilding from ST4 port to USB2.0 Hub, for ASI 1600 MMC. Is that possible?
    Thank you
    Michael

    • Sam Wen

      :

      Hi Michael
you need to send the camera back to up for such upgrading

no problem, please contact us through email

  26. :

I plan to purchase zwo 1600 mc cool OSC to use with meade ACF 14 in SCT at f/10 focal lenght is 3556 mm to be effective for the sampling i have to bin 4×4 to get the most bigger pixel size. There is possible to bin 4×4 with this camera some person told me is impossible to do binning because bayer chip ccd not alloying this process.

    • Sam Wen

      :

our color camera support mono bin and color bin, but color bin lose resolution

    ok

  30. :

Hello, I am new to astrophotography so forgive me if the answer to my question should be obvious. What I would like to know is whether your camera can autoguide a telescope and take photographs simultaneously, or do I need to get separate cameras for autoguiding and taking photographs. Thanks.

    Bill

    • Sam Wen

      :

no, you need a separate camera

  31. (verified owner):

    Hi,
I want to use this camera at F2 (hyperstar) to avoid vignetting, should I remove glass filter in front of the camera ?

    thank you
    Erwan

    • Sam Wen

      :

no, the camera is sealed by this window
you don’t need to remove the glass for Hyperstar imaging

  32. :

Will this fit onto a hyperstar lens on an Edge hd8? Or is it too wide?

    • Sam Wen

      :

yes, it suitable for HD8 Hyperstar imaging

  33. :

    Hello,
    I have two questions:
I have a 150/750 newton with a corrective Baader MPCC (distance camera / 55mm sensor)
What extension ring I have bought?

With the cool 1600mc asi, are a uv filter / ir and mandatory?
    thanks in advance

    • Sam Wen

      :

you need 55-17.5-18.5=19mm extender and one extra 1.25″ IR-CUT filter

  34. :

    Hi Sam
I plan to purchase zwo 1600 mc cool and use it with MaximDL and ascom driver. Is color binning effective in this configuration?

    Thanks
    Joe

    • Sam Wen

      :

you can choose color bin or mono bin, there is such option in ASCOM camera property dialog

  35. :

    Hello, extending 18.5 mm and T2 / T2 or T2 / M48?
    thank you for your reply

  36. :

I am seriously considering the ASI1600MC-cool camera as my next camera. I have 5 imaging configurations using two scopes (Canon lens, ES ED127 + 0x field flattener, ES ED 127 with 0.7x field flattener, C11 + .66x reducer and C11). My focal ratios range from f/10 to f/5.25. I am currently imaging with a full spectrum Canon DSLR. If I get the Canon adapter can I achieve the same back focus as the DSLR and use all my current connectors? What do you recommend for IR cut and light pollution filters that will work with all these configurations?

Also, I have seen background noise banding with my CMOS DSLR sensor (Canon T1i). This shows up as noise in bands in the dark of empty space especially near bright extended objects. It is very subtle and only really shows up with aggressive stretching. Is this problematic with all CMOS OSC sensors? Do you offer any sample linear data from this camera that can be worked to get a feel for the data quality from the camera?

    • Sam Wen

      :

you need order our EOS-T2 adapter with this camera to reach focus and don’t need any other adapters
this adapter changed the ASI cameras to EOS EF mount
the sensor of this cmos is very good, I didnot hear such band issue

  37. :

    Hi Mr. Sam
I want to Know How is the approximately value of Quantum efficency

    • Sam Wen

      :

the peak value is around %60

  38. :

Some CCD cameras come with inbuilt shutters that allow darks to be taken automatically as part of a scripted session. Can the asi1600 do this?

    • Sam Wen

      :

no, there is no mechanical shutter

  39. :

    Hi Sam,

    I have two questions:
    1. I hope asi1600mc-c is able to get better images as compared to unmoded DSLRs as far as the H-a zones of the nebulae are concerned. Am I correct? Sorry for my wild question as I am a newbie yet to use a dedicated astro imaging camera (so far I have been using only Canon EOS 60D unmodded and recently procured one ASI120MC for planetary imaging).

    2. Are you selling this product to India? (I hope you do). What is the ordering method please?

    • Sam Wen

      :

of course better Ha response and it’s cooled
      we can sell to India

  40. :

    Hi Sam,

Sorry. My first question was pertaining to image comparison of asi1600mc-c with a modded DSLR and NOT “unmodded” as written in my above post. Sorry for my mistake.

    • Sam Wen

      :

cooled is very important in summer
